Interfaith Couples
So you're a Muslim who's head-over-heels for a non-Muslim, or vice-versa, and people you trust are insisting that Islam forbids marrying outside the faith. Darlings, it just ain't so. Islam can be far more humane than that. But don't take it from me; take it from Dr. Khaleel Mohammad, an imam and professor of religious studies who acquired his education in Saudi Arabia, Syria and North America.

Fatima and Eric (with proud big sisters Irshad and Ish by their side)
Below is a short document he wrote to defend inter-faith marriage from an Islamic perspective. I've posted several translations and will add more languages in the coming months. Feel free to download and distribute - especially to desperate couples, conservative parents and bigoted clerics. Consider yourselves blessed.
Bangla and other languages coming soon.
To know that you're not alone, read a sample of the letters I've received from Muslims and non-Muslims who are madly in love with each other. Click on these two links:

FAISAL’S WEDDING SPEECH: BUSTING TRIBALISM
Asalaam-alaikum (peace be unto you) … Good evening.
I thank God for the life he has granted me … I thank my parents for raising me
I thank my brother & his family … and today I thank Anita for accepting me.
You see … today it just doesn’t matter … whether you are poor or rich
Whether you are tall or short … whether you are overweight or underweight
Whether you are a liberal or a conservative … West bank/east bank/TD Bank
The color of your lipstick don’t matter today … or the fancy suit you are wearing.
Whether you are a black … red … yellow or white
You see … all that doesn’t quite matter today … it just doesn’t.
In my eyes, in my world, in my visions & dreams … If you’ve come here today as a Buddhist, Jew, Hindu, Christian/Catholic, or a Muslim … I may not be equal in your eyes … but you all are very much equal in my eyes … You all are my brothers and sisters … We are all vertical parallel lines searching for the Truth.
We might have different calendars, languages or clothing styles
But our inner essence, inner radiance & inner fabric is very much the same
We must collectively liberate our brain cells from our narrow absolute ways of thinking.
Just for a minute … no perhaps even for a second
Can we stop waving our political, religious & cultural flags?
Can we break the pencil that was used to divide us and erase our boundaries?
Can we take off our glasses and vision the world all blurred together?
Just for a second can we do this?
There are some heroes in the audience I would like to acknowledge:
For their inspiration & courage … Can we now please stand for the ones who can’t and give them a hand?
I am blessed & fortunate today for I have married one of my heroes
I don’t want to be like Michael Jordan or Michael Jackson … I want to be like Anita.
Anita has a mission here on earth & I am fortunate that I am be part of her journey
The best thing about me … I repeat the best thing about me is … Anita.
To those of you who have come out of obligation today … I thank you
To the select few that have shown us unconditional love … I thank you
I thank God this formality is almost over… Asalaam-alaikum (peace be unto you).
